We know that the personal attention offered by an alumni or parent volunteer can be a powerful and persuasive recruitment tool. At the same time, the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid is striving to increase visibility and recognition of the University of Pittsburgh in communities outside of Pennsylvania. Therefore, the PART office has developed a new nationwide initiative, the Adopt-a-School program, which allows volunteers to spread the word about the University of Pittsburgh through direct contact with high schools in their area.

The Adopt-a-School program allows alumni and parent volunteers to serve as a liaison between the University of Pittsburgh's Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and area high schools. A maximum of three schools per volunteer is encouraged, but volunteers may adopt as many or as few as they are comfortable with. Generally, the volunteer will act as a local resource for the high school guidance office, prospective students, and their parents. Specifically, the volunteer will drop off recruitment materials provided by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid directly to the guidance office during the fall and more importantly, serve as a direct contact for admitted students from the adopted high schools.
